Tesla expands driverless robotaxi service to Dallas and Houston

Tesla announced the expansion of its robotaxi service to Dallas and Houston via a social media post accompanied by a 14-second video showing vehicles operating without human monitors or drivers. The move brings driverless ride-hailing to a third Texas market following the company's Austin launch last year and January 2026 transition to fully autonomous operations without safety drivers present.

According to crowdsourced tracking data, Tesla's initial deployment in the two new cities appears limited in scope. The Robotaxi Tracker website registered only one active vehicle in each of Dallas and Houston, compared to 46 logged in Austin, indicating a measured rollout strategy.

Tesla disclosed in a February regulatory filing that its Austin robotaxis had been involved in 14 crashes since the service launched. This reported incident rate provides one of the few public data points on the safety performance of the company's driverless fleet.

Separately, Tesla continues to operate a more constrained ride service with human drivers in the San Francisco Bay Area, suggesting the company maintains different operational models across regions.
