TL;DR
  • Figma launched a Markdown-based editor called Figma Specs to define design language rules for AI agents.
  • The company also moved its code layers feature to public beta, enabling interactive prototypes with embedded code.
  • Figma integrated its Payload CMS with the Figma Make product for dynamic website generation and content management.
  • The platform now supports over 20 tools via its MCP, including Open Code, Dia, Grok Bot, and Sarvam.

Figma introduced Figma Specs, a Markdown-based editor designed to let teams define and document a brand’s design language in a centralized, referenceable format. The editor allows users to embed Figma elements such as canvas objects, FigJam diagrams, code layers, and design libraries, providing a single source of truth for both human designers and AI agents working within Figma.

The company also moved its code layers feature from private to public beta, enabling users to add executable code directly to designs on the canvas. This allows for more interactive prototypes where changes to code can immediately reflect in the design, and vice versa. Users can ask AI agents to convert a design into code or modify existing code to iterate on prototypes.

To support broader integration with external tools, Figma said it now supports more than 20 tools through its Model Context Protocol (MCP), including Open Code, Dia, Grok Bot, and the Indian AI startup Sarvam. These integrations aim to expand the platform’s ability to orchestrate workflows involving AI agents and third-party services.

Figma also highlighted the growth of its Payload headless content management system, which it acquired last year. The company reported that Payload’s downloads have increased sixfold over the past 12 months. It is now integrating Payload with its Figma Make product to enable dynamic website generation and direct content management, streamlining the process of publishing and updating web content derived from Figma designs.

The updates were announced during Figma’s first Config event in India, where the company also emphasized the role of India as a key market. Figma noted that its platform is used by 40% of the top 100 companies listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange, and that the country is its largest market outside the United States.
