Meta released Muse Gadgets, an open-source project that provides developers with the tools to build hardware devices that connect to its Muse AI agent. The project includes open-source firmware for low-level device control and a Linux software development kit (SDK) to facilitate development. Meta also provided starter project ideas, such as adding a color e-ink display to a device or creating a stick that plugs into a TV’s HDMI port.

Developers can use low-cost hobbyist hardware like a Raspberry Pi or an off-the-shelf ESP32 board to build Muse-connected devices. Meta stated that users can connect Muse to displays, buttons, sensors, actuators, and other components available on a workbench. The company also set up a Discord channel to support developers working on Muse Gadgets.

Meta demonstrated the concept by building a USB-C-powered device called Muse Home Link, which enables Muse to connect to a home network and interact with smart devices such as speakers and smart TVs. The company produced 5,000 of these devices and plans to give them away for free to Muse subscribers while supplies last, according to a post by Nat Friedman, head of product at Meta’s Superintelligence Labs.

The release of Muse Gadgets aligns with Meta’s broader strategy to embed Muse beyond standalone chatbot use cases. Earlier this week, Meta introduced Muse for Small Business, a free offering with usage limits that connects Muse to tools such as Shopify, Dropbox, and Slack. The company also launched a new business unit, Meta Enterprise Platform, to target corporate customers with its AI offerings.
