Meta releases WhatsApp Business Tools MCP server to let AI agents automate setup and management

Meta announced a new WhatsApp Business Tools MCP server that allows AI coding agents—including Claude, Cursor, Codex, and ChatGPT—to automate tasks such as onboarding, messaging template creation, testing, and troubleshooting on the WhatsApp Business Platform.

Previously, developers had to switch between tools like the Developer Console, Business Manager, API reference, and their editor to complete WhatsApp Business setup. The new MCP server connects directly to the WhatsApp Business Platform, letting an AI agent handle steps such as creating a WhatsApp Business account, adding and verifying a phone number, registering for Cloud API access, and checking Terms of Service compliance.

Businesses can also ask the AI agent to create or edit messaging templates, test messages and webhooks, and monitor previously silent failures like Terms of Service violations, payment method issues, and Business Verification status.

Meta noted that during setup and configuration, developers can also use the existing Meta Social Technologies MCP server to discover API endpoints, search documentation, and troubleshoot errors.

The WhatsApp Business Tools MCP server expands Meta’s lineup of MCP servers, which previously included tools for managing ads and monitoring app configurations, further embedding AI agents into its developer tooling ecosystem.
