Anthropic releases claude-code v2.1.239 with cost-estimate changes, fullscreen renderer expansion, and bug fixes

Anthropic released claude-code v2.1.239 on August 21, 2025, with changes spanning cost modeling, user interface defaults, and bug fixes. The update adds a 1.1× US-only-inference premium to cost estimates for data-residency workspaces, making billing more transparent for regulated environments that require data to stay within U.S. borders.

The one-time fullscreen renderer offer, previously limited to certain setups, is now extended to Bedrock, Vertex, Foundry, and other previously excluded configurations. New installations on those setups will start in fullscreen mode by default.

Several reliability fixes target cloud and proxy environments. Streaming on Bedrock behind proxies that strip the response Content-Type header no longer silently doubles billed API calls by re-running every turn non-streaming. Startup hangs at HTTPS proxies when using Bedrock with an SSO profile and awsAuthRefresh are resolved via a credential pre-check that honors HTTPS_PROXY.

Other notable fixes include: preventing a raw crash dump when starting from a deleted directory by printing a clear message instead; resolving a ~5-second pause during Edit and Write calls in JetBrains IDE terminals when the plugin is connected; preventing premature turn endings when pressing Esc with a queued prompt; and correcting WebFetch’s retention of expired page content beyond the intended 15-minute window.

Cloud session stability is improved with fixes for out-of-plan mode recovery after idle worker restarts, MCP elicitation form clipping in fullscreen, and remote MCP server reconnection after transient 5xx errors. Session management issues are also addressed, such as custom session titles disappearing after large conversations and incorrect session reordering due to file-only changes.

Developer workflows benefit from fixes like accurate .worktreeinclude pattern matching, proper handling of UTF-8 BOM in agent skill .md files, correct OpenTelemetry trace resumption after PreToolUse hooks, and proper mouse movement handling in browser-based terminals. Terminal and UI issues are resolved, including fullscreen mode permission prompts, slash-command panel overlays, and Linux sandbox git config.worktree unreadability in repos with extensions.worktreeConfig.
