- Sheets canvas adds an AI-generated, interactive layer on top of Google Sheets that syncs with the underlying data in real time.
- Users can describe a desired layout in natural language—e.g., a study tracker or seating chart—and Gemini builds it automatically without code.
- Changes made in the canvas or the original spreadsheet are synchronized instantly, and the canvas can be shared like any other sheet tab.
Google Sheets is adding Sheets canvas, a new feature that overlays an interactive, AI-generated layer on top of spreadsheet data to create custom mini-apps such as dashboards, study trackers, or seating charts.
Users can describe their needs in natural language—e.g., "create a visual study tracker"—and Gemini will generate the corresponding layout without requiring formulas or programming.
The canvas remains synchronized with the underlying spreadsheet in real time, so edits made in either the canvas or the sheet are reflected immediately in both.
Sheets canvas can be shared with collaborators as a tab within Google Sheets, enabling teams or individuals to interact with the same live data.
Example use cases include turning assignment lists into interactive study aids, building fantasy football dashboards to track player performance, or converting RSVP data into drag-and-drop seating charts for wedding planning.
