Google reports AI-assisted Chrome security fixes exceeded two-year total in June alone

Google’s Chrome team reported patching 1,072 security bugs across Chrome 149 and 150, both released in June 2026, according to a white paper and an engineering statement from Doug Turner, Chrome’s director of engineering. This total exceeds the 1,036 vulnerabilities fixed across the prior 23 Chrome versions released over the preceding two years.

Turner stated that large language models have "fundamentally shifted the economics of cybersecurity," enabling "automated, industrial-scale" vulnerability discovery and allowing Chrome to "preemptively fix vulnerabilities" and "outpace adversaries" with each update.

The company published a chart comparing milestone releases, showing the sharp increase in fixed bugs coinciding with the adoption of AI tools. Chrome 126 (June 2024) is cited as a baseline before the recent surge.

Google is not alone in observing this trend. Microsoft announced a record 570 security flaws patched across its product lines in its most recent monthly update, attributing the increase to its own AI-assisted processes. Apple, by contrast, did not register a comparable surge in publicly tracked fixes for 2026.
