Anthropic updates Claude voice mode with more capable models and tool integrations

Anthropic announced an update to Claude’s voice mode that allows users to choose between Opus, Sonnet, and Haiku models, replacing the previous Haiku-only default. The new mode defaults to the fastest version of the last model used in text chat, aiming to support longer conversations such as providing feedback on communication style or brainstorming product market research.

The updated voice mode integrates with external tools including Gmail, Google Calendar, Slack, Canva, and Notion, enabling users to perform tasks like rescheduling meetings, drafting emails, or creating documents directly through voice commands. Anthropic noted this capability as a differentiator from OpenAI’s voice mode, which lacks tool integration despite recent conversational improvements.

Anthropic also highlighted multilingual support for voice mode, currently available in beta for English, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese (Brazilian), and Spanish (Latin America/Spain). Users must manually specify the language for non-English interactions.

The new voice mode is available to all users in beta across platforms, with free-tier users restricted to the Haiku model and a single connected app. Anthropic did not disclose details about the underlying voice stack or conversational improvements such as interruption handling, framing the update as a model and tooling enhancement rather than a voice-specific upgrade.
