Google Photos rolls out AI ‘Video Remix’ tool powered by Gemini Omni

Google Photos introduced a new AI-powered ‘Video Remix’ tool that transforms videos in seconds, the company announced on July 8, 2026. The feature is powered by Gemini Omni, Google’s recently released model described as capable of ‘creating anything from any input.’

The tool is accessible via the ‘Create’ tab in Google Photos and supports capabilities such as applying cinematic relighting to brighten dark clips, swapping plain backgrounds for more engaging scenes, and applying artistic styles like watercolor, raw sketchbook, and oil painting effects.

Google framed the feature as a way to make professional-quality video editing accessible without requiring specialized skills or hours of work. ‘Creating beautiful video clips shouldn’t require professional skills or hours of editing,’ the company wrote in a blog post. ‘Now, with Video Remix in Google Photos, you can transform ordinary videos into share-worthy moments in just a few taps.’

Video Remix begins rolling out on July 8, 2026, to eligible Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers in the U.S., Argentina, Bangladesh, Brazil, Colombia, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, and Turkey.

The feature is the latest in a series of AI-powered updates to Google Photos, which has recently added touch-up tools for subtle edits like removing blemishes and brightening eyes, as well as an AI-powered feature that turns photos of clothes into a digital closet for outfit planning and virtual try-ons.
