TL;DR
  • Web Search on Amazon Bedrock AgentCore is now generally available as a managed tool for agents.

Web Search on Amazon Bedrock AgentCore is now generally available, providing a fully managed, Model Context Protocol (MCP)-compatible capability for agents to retrieve web information without infrastructure overhead.

The tool is available as a managed target or connector that agents discover via a standard tools/list call and invoke like other MCP tools, with no search APIs to provision, no outbound credentials to manage, and no result-parsing glue to maintain.

Behind the connector is a purpose-built web index maintained by Amazon, spanning tens of billions of documents and refreshed continually to reflect new content within minutes.

Retrieval combines a knowledge graph with semantic snippet extraction tuned for model context, and queries are processed entirely within AWS, ensuring customer queries do not leave AWS infrastructure.

To use the Web Search tool, teams create or use an existing AgentCore Gateway, attach the Web Search tool target using connectorId 'web-search', and invoke it from an agent using MCP, with IAM-based authentication handled by the Gateway.
