Reliance unveils AI call assistant, app agent, and home display as part of broader AI push

Reliance Industries, led by billionaire Mukesh Ambani, announced a suite of AI-powered services at its annual shareholder meeting, positioning the conglomerate as a domestic leader in artificial intelligence. The company introduced Jio Call Agent, an AI assistant designed to join phone calls to transcribe conversations, generate summaries, and execute tasks such as booking transportation, ordering food, and making reservations. The service, activated by the phrase “Hey Jio,” is slated to launch later this year for Jio’s more than 500 million users.

The AI assistant is embedded directly into Jio’s telecom network rather than offered as a standalone app, aiming to make AI assistance a native feature of phone calls. Reliance stated this approach could reduce consumer reliance on third-party call-assistant applications and provide the company with a distribution advantage in India’s competitive AI market.

Reliance also unveiled an AI-powered version of its MyJio mobile app capable of performing tasks on behalf of users through natural-language requests. Capabilities include activating eSIMs and selecting roaming plans, with the company positioning the app as a central interface for user interactions across its ecosystem.

In addition, Reliance introduced TeleFrame, a home display device that uses AI agents to proactively surface information and recommendations. The device provides alerts such as weather updates, schedules, and household reminders, reflecting a broader industry trend toward ambient AI assistants for the home.

These announcements follow the launch of Reliance Intelligence, a unit focused on developing AI infrastructure and services for consumers, businesses, and governments, including applications supporting 22 Indian languages. The company emphasized the need for India to become a creator and leader in AI rather than merely a consumer of foreign technology.

Reliance also outlined plans to invest $110 billion in AI infrastructure as part of its effort to establish a major role in India’s emerging AI ecosystem. The company has pursued partnerships with Google, Meta, and Nvidia to support these ambitions.

At the shareholder meeting, Reliance introduced AI services tailored to sectors including healthcare, education, agriculture, and small businesses, branded as JioHealthIQ, JioLearnIQ, JioKrishiIQ, and AI Vyapar. These products are designed to operate across multiple Indian languages and address local market needs.

The announcements coincided with the disclosure of a draft prospectus for Jio Platforms’ initial public offering, which includes a fresh issue of up to 270 million shares, according to a stock exchange filing. The company did not detail data governance policies regarding the use of user-generated information for AI model training or sharing with partners.
