Amazon launches OpenAI models and new agent service on AWS Bedrock

Amazon announced on Tuesday that its AWS Bedrock service now offers OpenAI's latest models alongside Codex, a code-writing tool, and introduced Bedrock Managed Agents, a new offering built specifically around OpenAI's reasoning models. The service includes steering and security features for agent deployments.

The timing directly follows Monday's public announcement that Microsoft no longer holds exclusive distribution rights to OpenAI products, a constraint that had complicated AWS's ability to offer OpenAI capabilities despite the cloud provider's reported up-to-$50 billion investment in the AI company. Amazon CEO Andy Jassy acknowledged the agreement revision on social media, describing it as noteworthy.

According to Amazon's own blog post, the company framed this as the beginning of broader partnership deepening between AWS and OpenAI. The move reflects a broader realignment in AI partnerships, with OpenAI also engaging with Oracle and Microsoft simultaneously building AI agent offerings with Anthropic to reduce dependence on any single partner.
