The commitment includes in-kind access to Google DeepMind’s AI for science portfolio for awardees of the Genesis Mission. This portfolio features AlphaEvolve, a Gemini-powered coding and discovery agent designed to design advanced algorithms; AlphaFold 3, a model for predicting the structure and interactions of proteins and other biomolecules; AlphaGenome, a tool for understanding how DNA variation shapes biology and disease; WeatherNext, a family of AI weather forecasting models; and AlphaEarth Foundations, a foundational AI model for mapping and understanding planetary data.
In addition to model access, Google will provide Gemini for Government seats and tokens for one year to tens of thousands of users across the Department of Energy’s National Laboratories. The platform will support operations, research, and management teams, offering a secure foundation for DOE’s scientific and administrative workflows.
Early applications of these tools are already underway. At Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, researchers are using AlphaEvolve to map complex mathematical systems, uncovering hidden connections that would otherwise take years to identify. At the National Laboratory of the Rockies, scientists reduced microscope calibration time from over 90 minutes to about 13 minutes and cut manual focusing steps from up to 50 to two by integrating Gemini into laboratory instruments, enabling more autonomous experimentation workflows.
