AMD announced it will invest up to $5 billion in Anthropic as part of a strategic partnership to expand Anthropic's computing capacity. The deal includes the deployment of up to 2 gigawatts of AMD's Instinct MI450 AI GPUs using the chipmaker's new Helios rack-scale system.

The companies plan to deploy the first gigawatt of AI GPUs in the first half of 2027. Anthropic has previously secured AI infrastructure deals with Google, Broadcom, Amazon, SpaceX, and TeraWulf.

In addition to the hardware deployment, AMD and Anthropic will launch a multi-year engineering collaboration. Under this collaboration, AMD will use Anthropic's Claude model across its software development, engineering, and product development workflows.

Tom Brown, Anthropic cofounder and chief compute officer, stated in a press release that the partnership secures the capacity Anthropic needs and optimizes it for training and serving the Claude model.
