Major AI chatbots ChatGPT, Grok, and Claude experience simultaneous outages

OpenAI’s ChatGPT, xAI’s Grok, and Anthropic’s Claude all experienced service disruptions on Thursday, with users reporting errors or complete unavailability across web and mobile platforms. The incidents began at different times but overlapped during the late morning and early afternoon ET.

OpenAI reported 'elevated errors across ChatGPT and Codex' starting around 11AM ET, which prevented users from engaging in conversations and disrupted related features such as logins, file uploads, voice mode, search, deep research, and image generation. The company did not provide further technical details about the cause of the disruption.

Anthropic’s Claude, Claude Code, and the Claude API also experienced an outage around the same period, described by a technical staff member as resulting from an 'infrastructure issue.' Anthropic stated the problem was resolved at approximately 12:15PM ET.

xAI’s Grok became unavailable on Android, iOS, and web starting at 9:30AM ET, returning a message to users that 'This model is overloaded right now. Please try again shortly or pick a different model.' xAI confirmed the issue was fixed later the same day, though it did not specify the root cause.
