  • The tool supports post-visit notes, care team notes, lab results, and medications, and connects to providers and apps like Apple Health and MyFitnessPal.
  • OpenAI states all conversations are encrypted and that health-connected data receives additional encryption protection.
  • A Florida pastor has sued OpenAI, alleging ChatGPT provided dangerous medical advice that delayed his care for a pulmonary embolism.

OpenAI began a broad rollout of ChatGPT Health to all logged-in users aged 18 and older in the US on web and iOS, enabling people to connect medical records and health-tracking data directly to the chatbot. The feature allows users to ask questions about their connected health information within the main ChatGPT interface, rather than requiring them to navigate to a dedicated Health tab.

During a briefing, Ashley Alexander, OpenAI’s vice president of health product, stated that the company’s models “are now capable of reasoning at levels that are better than clinician level.” OpenAI’s health lead, Karan Singhal, later clarified that the claim should be tempered, saying that while “there have been individual studies that have been pointing in that direction,” such as one from Harvard and Stanford, the company’s internal assessment does not definitively establish superiority over clinicians.

Users can connect post-visit notes, care team notes, lab results, and medications, and can review and change which health data are shared. Supported sources include health providers and apps such as Apple Health, Weight Watchers, MyFitnessPal, and Function. OpenAI emphasizes that ChatGPT Health “supports, not replaces, professional care.”

OpenAI says all conversations are encrypted at rest and in transit, and that information connected in Health “receives additional encryption protection.” Before using health information to personalize responses, ChatGPT asks for user permission.

The broader release follows OpenAI’s launch of GPT-5.6 Sol, which the company describes as its “strongest model yet for health,” and which will power ChatGPT Health.
