Google’s NotebookLM, a research assistant tool, is introducing a feature that generates 60-second, vertical TikTok-style AI clips to summarize uploaded research sources. The clips are designed to provide concise, visual recaps of content, pairing AI-generated images with narration.
The feature is rolling out first to Google AI Ultra and Pro subscribers, with an example provided by Google illustrating Australia’s unsuccessful war on emus. The example uses paper cutout-style AI art of emus alongside narration to convey the summary.
To create a clip, users navigate to NotebookLM on the web or app, select a notebook, and choose the 'Video' option from the Studio column. They then select 'Short,' specify the topic to focus on (or enter a custom topic), and generate the clip.
The feature is currently available in English only, and Google has indicated that support for free users will be added 'soon.' The addition follows existing NotebookLM capabilities such as generating AI podcasts, cinematic videos, and visual explainers.
