Google’s agentic assistant, Gemini Spark, is now available on macOS as part of the existing Gemini desktop app. The feature expansion follows the agent’s initial launch last month and includes updates such as real-time topic tracking and support for additional Google Workspace and third-party apps.

The macOS release enables Gemini Spark to interact with files on the computer and, in the future, handle remote tasks. Google notes that users will soon be able to assign multi-step tasks to Spark via their phones, such as triggering the desktop agent to extract data from a file on their Mac. At launch, users can already use Spark to organize files or generate new Google Workspace documents and spreadsheets from local files. For example, Google suggests Spark can convert invoices stored on a user’s computer into a budgeting worksheet.

Gemini Spark for macOS (beta) is available only to Google AI Ultra subscribers in the U.S. at launch. Google also added integrations for Google Tasks and Google Keep, addressing a gap identified in earlier testing. Additional third-party app integrations include Canva, Dropbox, Instacart, OpenTable, and Zillow Rentals, enabling tasks such as reserving tables, ordering groceries, designing flyers, or booking apartment tours.

The agent now supports real-time tracking of topics and events, improving performance for tasks involving sports scores, stock movements, breaking news, social media, blogs, online shopping, and weather. Google is also rolling out support for custom Model Context Protocol (MCP), which allows users to connect preferred apps directly into Spark to tailor the assistant to individual needs.

The macOS launch positions Gemini Spark as a competitor to desktop AI agents such as Claude Desktop and Microsoft’s Copilot, with the added capability to work with local files and, eventually, remote tasks.
